Spaces we assess

One methodology, a different scope for each space

Cemprotecta assesses homes, workplaces, schools and nurseries, clinics, commercial premises and building plots. The method is shared; what changes is what is measured, where and why.

The scope is defined once the use of the space, its occupancy, its installations and its surroundings are understood. There is no fixed package that is the same for every case.

Starting point

A space is assessed as a system, not as a collection of isolated measurements.

The building, its installations, its materials, ventilation, surroundings and the way it is occupied all influence one another.

That is why measurements are chosen for their relevance and the results are interpreted together. The same factor can be decisive in one space and irrelevant in another.

Types of space

Which spaces we assess

If your case does not fit neatly into any of these groups, tell us anyway: the scope is defined case by case.

Homes

Flats and houses, with particular attention to bedrooms and sleeping areas.

Offices and workplaces

Offices, private offices and coworking spaces, including the adaptation of specific workstations.

Clinics and healthcare premises

Medical practices, clinics and therapy centres.

What we look at

What determines the scope

Before deciding what to measure, we look at what the space is like and how it is used.

These six variables explain why two apparently identical buildings may call for different assessments.

  • Use. What the space is used for and how many hours are spent in it.
  • Occupancy. Who uses it, at what times and with what needs.
  • Materials. Finishes, furniture and products present indoors.
  • Installations. Electricity, heating and air conditioning, telecommunications and water.
  • Ventilation. Air renewal and humidity conditions.
  • Surroundings. What lies around the building and beneath it.

Homes

Homes adapted to specific environmental needs

When a home needs to be adapted to the specific environmental needs of the person living in it, the assessment changes its objective: it does not only describe the condition of the property, it determines what can be changed and in what order.

Environmental adaptation of homes

Offices and workplaces

Environmental adaptation of workstations

Adapting a specific workstation is planned together with the employer or the occupational health and safety service, and covers both the physical environment and the materials and equipment present.

Timing

When is an assessment advisable?

Before buying or renting

Understanding the environmental conditions of a property or a plot before making the decision.

During the design of a new build or renovation

While materials, installations and layout can still be decided.

/en/spaces/plots-building-work/

After a renovation or new furniture

When odours, discomfort or conditions appear that were not there before.

When a space needs to be adapted to a person

When someone needs their home or workplace to be adapted to specific environmental needs.

Damp, mould or a persistent problem

When there are stains, condensation or an odour that does not go away despite repairs.

Method

A common methodology

Whatever the space, the sequence does not change: understanding the case, inspecting the building, deciding what needs to be assessed, measuring or sampling, interpreting the results together and documenting them.

What is adapted to each space is the scope: which factors are assessed, in which rooms and in how much depth.

See the assessment in detail

  • The scope is agreed before the assessment is carried out.
  • Measurements are chosen for their relevance, not as a fixed package.
  • Results are interpreted together, never in isolation.
  • The report prioritises improvement measures proportionate to the case.
